When it comes to hotel loyalty programs, many people immediately think of Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy, or World of Hyatt. However, GHA Discovery is a program that often flies under the radar, even though it deserves more attention. I hadn’t considered it until recently, but if I had, I could have been enjoying numerous benefits. In short, GHA Discovery allows you to easily accumulate points that can be redeemed at various hotels outside of the major chains, with minimal restrictions.

Joining GHA Discovery

The Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) is a coalition of smaller hotel groups that aren’t part of the larger hotel programs. The GHA Discovery program includes around 1,000 hotels and resorts across 100 countries. Many of these are luxury brands, alongside some mid-range options.

Notable brands participating in GHA Discovery include Anantara, Capella, Corinthia, Kempinski, Nikki Beach, Pan Pacific, and Regal Hotels. Particularly, Capella is recognized as one of the best boutique hotel groups in the world, and it’s fantastic that they have their own loyalty program, even if it’s not widely known.

How to Earn and Redeem GHA Discovery Points

Earning and redeeming points in GHA Discovery is straightforward. GHA points are referred to as Discovery Dollars (D$), and each D$ is equivalent to a dollar off your stay at eligible hotels. Members can earn back between 4-7% of their hotel bill as D$; Silver members earn 4%, Gold 5%, Platinum 6%, and Titanium 7%. D$ can be used for room costs, dining, spa services, and more, provided you have at least D$10.

It’s important to note that D$ will expire after 12-24 months, depending on your membership tier. Specifically, Silver members' D$ will expire after 12 months, Gold after 18 months, and Platinum and Titanium after 24 months. Additionally, promotional D$ will expire after 6 months.

Member Benefits of GHA Discovery

GHA Discovery offers four membership tiers: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Titanium. To reach Gold status, you need to stay twice or spend $1,000. Platinum status requires 10 nights or $5,000 spent, while Titanium requires 30 nights or $15,000 spent. There's also a GHA Discovery Red tier available by invitation only.

Should You Join GHA Discovery?

While GHA Discovery isn’t my main hotel program, its diverse portfolio of hotels makes it a worthy option for many travelers. GHA features a plethora of enticing hotels, from the Capella resorts to airport hotels.

By joining GHA Discovery, you can earn and redeem points during your stays and potentially enjoy premium benefits if you qualify. Notably, you can participate in GHA Discovery while still booking through other programs like Virtuoso to gain additional perks.

Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers

The GHA Discovery program can be quite appealing if you’re planning your travels. Currently, many hotels within the GHA Discovery program are located in prominent Asian destinations such as Singapore, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. To join, simply register on their official website and start accumulating points from your very first stay.

While many hotels in the program do not require a visa for entry, be mindful of visa requirements when traveling to other countries. For instance, if you’re flying from Vietnam to Singapore or Malaysia, you won’t need a visa for short visits. Flight tickets from Vietnam to these destinations typically range from 2 to 4 million VND for a one-way trip.
