Delta Air Lines has just announced upgrades to its business and economy class seating. Let's explore the exciting new enhancements for their flights!

Delta Launches Business Class Suites on Airbus A350

Delta Air Lines has unveiled plans to equip its Airbus A350-1000 with a new business class suite, expected to be delivered next year. In addition, the airline will upgrade its Airbus A330 fleet with suites that feature doors, providing a more luxurious experience for passengers.

Business Class Enhancements

The new business class on the A350-1000 will continue to utilize the Thompson seat platform, but with several appealing upgrades. The new seats will be 3 inches longer than the current model, offering a lie-flat length of up to 6.5 feet. Additionally, these seats will feature extra cushioning on memory foam, a dedicated space for shoes, and a hook for hanging glasses.

Smarter Seat Configuration

The business class cabin on the A350-1000 will showcase a reverse-herringbone layout, with window seats angled towards the window, while the middle seats will have movable dividers that can be opened or closed based on passenger preference. Although not on par with the A350-1000, Delta is committed to incorporating many similar design elements in the suites of its A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft.

Economy Class Improvements

Notably, Delta is not only focusing on business class but is also enhancing the economy and premium economy sections. The airline will offer 50% premium seats (including economy seats with extra legroom) on the new A350. This explains Delta's adoption of a basic business class model akin to that of United Airlines.

Exciting Self-Serve Snack Area

Interestingly, Delta is promoting a new self-serve snack area. While it may seem unusual, it's surprising that Delta is just now introducing this feature. This area will be located at the main entrance of the A350-1000 and just in front of the A330.

New Technical Features

Delta's announcements are often accompanied by flowery language to embellish their products. The airline proudly claims to be the first in the U.S. to offer an all-suite business class cabin. However, it’s worth noting that Qatar Airways had already introduced business class suites before Delta.

Aspiring Future Plans

Delta has stated that by 2030, it aims for 90% of its business class seats to be suites with doors. Nevertheless, it's undeniable that some of their current business class seats still fall short of passenger expectations.

Importance of Economy Class Upgrades

While every passenger knows that most travelers will fly economy, small improvements in this class are also essential. Delta believes that the new economy seat design will create an additional inch of legroom and include a small shelf on the seatback for personal items.

Need for Fleet Upgrades to Meet Demand

Currently, Delta is still grappling with its Airbus A330 and 767 fleet, which no longer meet modern standards. The airline needs to expedite the upgrade of these A330s and phase out the 767s to provide better service to customers in the future.

New Interior Design Enhances Customer Satisfaction

Delta began implementing a new interior design for its aircraft last year, with plans to apply it to over 800 planes within the next five years. These newly designed aircraft are anticipated to boost customer satisfaction ratings by 25 points.
